Reveille! Reveille! All hands heave out and trice up. Reveille! The 1MC echoes down the p-way outside of compartment 219 and I roll over thinking I need more sleep. Today was a sluggish day, 0500 rolled past and I sat staring at the ceiling, awake but reluctant to get up. A few minutes and two attempts to sit up later and I resolved not to waste the hour, this effort was thwarted by the casual persuasiveness of NTI encouraging me to take my time.

Ten minutes later it was back to the routine. At the speed of molasses I climbed down my bunk and packed up all the gear adrift on my desk, the material that had kept me up past balls the night before. Then it was on the races, hygiene, dress into uniform, clean up the compartment, stow any remaining gear, hurry to muster at 0545 and march out for the indoc muster a little after 0600.

The marching over only slightly improved, regardless I resolved I wanted no part in it as either driver or motivator until my voice has fully recovered. Day 3 of indoc now settled into a comfortable routine. All sailors are to be seated in indoctrination classroom 127 by 0700, todays topic: finances, substance use, and more bystander intervention.

Banking basics, then savings plan followed by a break. Spending plan, then credit & debt and another break. BM2 has admitted to being bored with the material as she has to teach it week after week to incoming sailors and needs the breaks just as much as we do to not fall asleep. Lunch is now routine as well, we form up into a large 3 column formation and march to the galley. Today I tried the American line at the east side of the galley, it was a Mexican food day, reasonably tasty. Then back to indoc, responsible alcohol use, followed by drug use and more bystander intervention. This time focused on the objectification of woman and engrained gender policing. Mostly it all seems like a bit of an over reaction to very real problems.

The march back to the 800's finally saw someone address the marching issues. FC1, our escort mentioned most of the issues and even threatened to take us back to force us to march back but alas, an idol threat shoved aside with a casually serious "You're all lucky I'm lazy" before releasing us to our ships.

Back on the Porter I failed to make it to shadow the immediate watch, cleaned up the uniforms I wore for inspections the day prior and then shadowed the Fire & Security Rover for my second of 3 required hour shadows for watch quals. With lib on the choice for chow was simple, again to the galley, this time back to Marinara's for some Italian goodness on the west side of the building and now at 0930 it's time to head down to catch one more shadow before doing whatever I choose into the night.

All and all indoc week is a nice change of pace from the consistent hounding of boot camp, but the NMTI's give you enough rope to hang yourself which the RDC's never really did so one can't get complacent. Hopefully I'll have the sense to get a little more sleep tonight, though waking up early for div 098 may have prepped me for not getting the full 8 hours. One thing is for sure, there are many days and many changes ahead.
